The dancing girl of Mohenjo-Daro is among the most renowned examples of this craft worldwide. With its origins tied to the term "dhokna," meaning to cast, this tradition employs the ancient lost-wax technique. • Creating the mould: A mould is shaped by hand using a mixture of local clay and rice chaff, often resembling a deity, animal, or everyday item.
• Applying a wax design: A thin clay layer is applied over the wax design, followed by additional layers until the mould is sufficiently thick and firm.
• Casting: Molten bronze or brass is poured into the mould.
• Cooling and finishing: Once cooled, the clay mould is broken, and the metal object is polished, filed, and burnished.
